Welcome!

A message from the President

Greetings sportsmen and sportswomen from around the globe!    Browse the site, click  the links, enjoy yourselves! I’d like to share some general information about the club before you get started.

Monument Beach Sportsman’s Club, Inc.  (MBSC)  was founded in 1964 by original Plank members Kendal Jones and shortly thereafter - Alcott Tobey. The foundation of the club was built on  sportsmanship, volunteerism & strong work ethic - which  is still the club’s mantra to date. Alcott - well into his 80’s, still shows up for the monthly dinner meetings and washes pots and pans! Let that be a ‘note of expectation’ to  prospective members as well as to the existing membership. Your contribution back to the club never stops.

The first meetings were held in the Monument Beach Firehouse, Cape Cod, MA. and were attended by a small group of ‘locals’.    In 1969, Kendal and several other plank members purchased 13 acres of land and moved the club to its current location beside the Bourne Landfill on Rt. 28 by using personal funds as well as by hosting social events such as NE clam bakes, game dinners, and other sporting events.   MBSC still supports these fundamental and traditional  values today, and also strives to be a broad-based supporter and good neighbor of the local community as well as to other sporting organizations like the Barnstable County League, FRNA, NRA, and G.O.A.L.

The club continued it’s growth over the next few decades and  acquired additional land holdings which now encompasses approximately 62 acres.  There are (4) major structural  facilities situated on the property as well as numerous outdoor venues and ranges.  The main club house is a two story building, encompasses a main dining/meeting area downstairs, a main meeting hall upstairs with sliding doors to an outside deck, a stone fireplace downstairs, a small office area, two bars, and a commercial kitchen. The club house may be rented by members and non-members - for a fee.  Licensed Capacity for the club house is 200 occupants.  Kitchen and Bar staff are MA certified in food handling and TIPS, and several of the Range Officers carry numerous certifications.

Currently the club has approximately 280 members spearheaded by an eighteen member Board of Directors and a five member Executive Board operating from club by-laws and Robert’s Rules of Order.  MBSC is a private member’s club with a diverse membership comprised of sportsmen and sportswomen from all walks of life, all ages. We host numerous public events such as the Hunter’s Ball and the MBSC Pig Roast and allow members in good standing to bring supervised guests.

The club offers Trap Shooting two-three times a week (seasonal dependent)  for members & escorted guests, as well as for the general public. The Trap Committee also hosts numerous special events throughout the year to raise funds for charities like the Jimmy Fund.   Indoor Archery is offered weekly, Thursday evenings, 7PM, public invited. In addition, several ‘open to the public’ 3-D Archery events are scheduled annually where the “voted” best of the 3-D circuit ‘country buffet’ breakfast is served.  MBSC archery facilities include both an  indoor (40 yd. 17 station) range as well as a  45 acre 3-D (30 station) outdoor range.

The club has several Licensed Firearms Instructors on the membership roster  offering Certified Firearm’s Instruction (for a fee). The club also offers Hunter Education (Mass. Fish and Wildlife), Cowboy Action Shooting (CAS),  100 & 200 yd. Rifle Ranges, Outdoor Pistol Range, Indoor Pistol Range, Rental Ranges, Picnic Area.  And of course – what’s a sportsman’s club without a Horseshoe Pit!

Club operations are mainly funded through annual membership, private donations, event fund-raisers, and supplemental grants. All facilities are accessible by any member in good standing (on their own time-frame)  by using a physical access control security system and personalized key-fobs. Entrance points to the (4) facilities have been made ADA accessible. Several shooting stations on the outdoor ranges as well as in the Indoor Pistol have also been made ADA accessible.

Prospective members must have a club sponsor (existing member in good standing), must read before the membership twice and before the BOD once, must pay annual dues and a one time initiation fee,  and must agree to participate in the MBSC Internship Program by volunteering 12 hours to the club their first year. The Internship Program places new members on several committees headed by the club’s senior members which helps to introduce them into the club infrastructure.

General club meetings are held the last Wednesday of the month where dinner is served to the membership and guests. Attendance at the monthly club dinner meetings can average anywhere between 30-60 members normally.  BOD business meetings are held the second Wednesday of the month. Club members in good standing may attend, prospective members may be read then must leave, guests may not attend BOD meetings.

A Bar and Entertainment Committee staffs monthly meetings and special events, as well as for rentals requesting bar service.  The committee raises funds for scholarships using tip proceeds.  MBSC sponsors  two young adults to MASS Fish and Wildlife Summer Camp based on the collection of tips so if you’re a regular of just visiting as a guest, throw in a buck or two into the tip jar- it goes to a good cause.

As a progressive and modern sportsman’s club yet one that adheres to  traditional values as well, the club feels it is important to support the  membership base by continuing to improve and modernize its facilities,  and by expanding amenities as budget allows, yet save for that  rainy day we all know comes sooner or later!  In other words, put money back into the club for member enjoyment and club growth, but plan and fund for the future longevity of the club. MBSC has a very strong sense of preservation of values and commitment to its members so it strives to balance capital projects in the short-term, against long-term savings so as to preserve the club for future generations of sportsmen and sportswomen. They are our future and the tradition must be passed along generation to generation.

We here at the club think MBSC is one of the best sporting clubs in New England! Why,  because we have an active and dedicated membership, we ‘put-back’ into the facilities and strive to expand our programs for the enjoyment of the membership base,  we work to preserve the club for future generations, and  we offer a very wide variety of  sporting venues and social agendas which we feel makes being a member of MBSC  worth the price of admission!

We hope you enjoy the site. Surf around. Ranges and events are more clearly defined throughout.
