Ranges

The MBSC offers various indoor and outdoor shooting ranges for Archery, Rifle, Pistol,  Black Powder & Trap. Many members enjoy walking their pets along our 3D archery course as it is an enjoyable and well marked trail in the woods. It is common to see deer and wild turkey while on the 3D trail. Take a hike even if you don’t shoot!

IDR Ventilation and Heating Systems Operation

Our newly renovated 50’ Indoor Pistol Range features a state of the art ventilation system and an adjacent spectacular meeting room for shooters to hold their meetings or just gather for a good time before and after their shoot. You have to see this facility to believe it! The state of the art indoor pistol range (IDR) has (8) shooting stations; electronic target retrieval system; recently updated re-circulation HEPA filtered air scrubbers for the ventilation system; and upgraded sound insulation. The restroom facility and several shooting stations have also been upgraded to ADA standards. From September through April there are two traveling teams who shoot .22 cal. National Bulls-eye competitive league. Competition starts 7PM. Center-fire competition (.32 cal. To .45 ACP) shoot mid January through April 1. In the summer there are two non-traveling .22 cal. National Bulls-eye competitive leagues that shoot 7PM Monday’s and Tuesday’s. the IDR is open to all members and escorted guests. User fees are collected and  help to offset maintenance and target expense. A certified range officer is in charge of all safety regulations.

IDR Ventilation and Heating Systems Operation

Ventilation

The IDR RANGE has 4 HEPA Filter Air Scrubbers and 3 exhaust fans - ALL of which must be used whether there’s an individual shooter on the line or a full line.

All users - switches on back wall of range (behind shooting stations) marked with green dots are to be turned on prior to shooting, and off when done. PLEASE DO NOT FORGET

Heating

There are two furnaces and one restroom baseboard heater

Classroom furnace – recirculation

The Classroom furnace thermostat is located adjacent to the scrubber closet in the classroom area just beside the pressure gauges. Set  the desired room temp per your normal household routine by adjusting thermostat when occupied, then set it  back to 55f when departing.

Range Furnace – 100% fresh air

The Range furnace thermostat is located on back wall behind shooters just above the main switch panel and will operate in fan mode or heat mode/auto-fan.  If you want heat/auto-fan, just adjust the thermostat dial to preferred temp.  and blower will come on automatically and  produce heat/air until room set temp is satisfied. If only the blower fan from the range furnace is required and no heat is needed, leave thermostat alone and flip switch marked with green dot (range furnace fan) and you’ll get 100% fresh air – no heat.  When departing, turn thermostat back to 55 f if used, and fan only switch back to off.

Restroom Baseboard Heater – electric

During colder months- set dial to medium. KEEP DOOR CLOSED.

Members are reminded that GUEST payment is required for use of all outdoor firearms ranges.  This includes 100/200 yd Main Range, Rental Ranges and CAS Range when MBSC members are allowed access on those days when not in use by Entergy and other municipalities. Place guest payment for 100/200 Main Outdoor Range in brass mail slot on back wall of IDR facing the shooting stations.  A new collection box has been placed on the Rental Range for payment of guests using that range on those days when not in use by Entergy. The CAS Range is also MBSC’s Alternate Rental Range used by municipalities. Rental schedules are set and posted by CRO Ken Daly.

Outdoor Range Rules

(100) & (200) yd. Ranges  – These Ranges are adjacent to the Bourne Dump. ALWAYS exercise caution and good sense when firing on these ranges. If there is traffic on the side of the rip-rap, please be courteous and move to the far side of the range away from the dump. Do not shoot yard markers.

1.        NO unsafe firearms.

2.        Open to members & their escorted guests seven days a week.

3.        Eye and Ear protection must be worn while on the firing line.

4.        Range is closed from sunset to sunrise.

5.        No alcohol or drugs are allowed on the range at any time.

6.        All accidents or unsafe conditions are to be reported to the Chief Range Officer or the Associate Chief Range Officer.

7.        NO TRACER Ammunition.

8.        NO RAPID FIRE devices allowed.

9.        Range Fees: Members free, non-members $5.00

10.     TARGET STANDS - Use portable target stands, width is most important.  Cardboard backers must be at least 18 inches wide and 29-30 inches high. This covers IPSC and NRA tombstone. When using bulls eye paper targets or other paper targets, targets must be stapled to cardboard backers. CARDBOARD BACKERS ARE IN RANGE SHED ON 200 YD RANGE Place cardboard backers on top of highest support. These uprights were made so using backers above supports will cause rounds to go through target and impact at or near 100 yard berm or at or near 200 yard berm.

11.     DO NOT STAPLE PAPER BULLSEYE TARGETS TO UPRIGHTS OR WOODEN SUPPORTS. DO NOT SHOOT BIRD SHOT or ANY OTHER SHOTGUN LOADS OTHER THAN SLUGS AT PORTABLE TARGET STANDS.

The trap field has a pattern board – use that!

12.     LARGE UPRIGHTS –If dump workers are on their road turn targets stands 12-15 degrees away from dump (approx. 3 benches from where you are shooting).

13.     ALWAYS SHOOT AWAY FROM DUMP. All bullets must hit at or near berm.

14.     Low targets are acceptable on Rental-Range only or inside 200 yard alley-way. Because of height of target stands, shooters can shoot from benches and place stands 10 yards to 200 yards and still impact rounds at or near a berm.

15.     Portable target stands and bases will be located in the new shed area on the 200 yard range. After shooting, please return stands and bases to the shed. DO NOT LEAVE THEM ON THE RANGE.

16.     Look for locally posted rules concerning BANG & CLANG Targets – no rounds over 3000 fps.

Target stands marked for sitting are for the wheelchair members

Outdoor Rental Range (Entergy) - The MBSC Rental Range is rented on an annual basis to Entergy Corporation for the next (5) years.   The Rental Range is off-limits to MBSC members during the agreed upon rental schedule if being used by Entergy but may be utilized otherwise by all members (normally Friday – Sunday) unless otherwise posted.   Certain Entergy security personnel shall also be allowed to make use of the Rental Range outside of normal rental hours as Associate Members of MBSC providing certain contractual obligations are met.  If the Rental Range must be closed due to other MBSC scheduled events such as the 3-D Archery Shoot, then alternate arrangements are at the discretion of the Chief Range Officer, or President.

Entergy - Hours of Operation - Monday from 0730 hours to 1600 hours, Tuesday and Wednesday from 0730 hours to 2100 hours, and Thursday from 0730 hours to 1600 hours.  Use of ranges on Thursday night is prohibited since it will interfere with MBSC Thursday night trap shoots, which are open to the public.
